I’m open for comments on the format and content of the next exam (subject to reasonable, thoughtful and comprehensive standards, of course). Use comments to tell me about format, length, content, etc. Feel free to suggest questions, as well.

  1. I liked the group take-home portion, personally. Bouncing ideas around between group members helped me learn more and get a better grasp on concepts before the in-class individual exam. The length of the individual portion wasn’t bad. Maybe having one less short answer (3-6 sentence) question would free up a little more time that could be used to think more deeply about the medium answers questions. But I’m also just bad at exam pacing. That’s my two cents!

  2. I would agree with the one less short question. I think it would allow us to better think through the medium questions which require more though and creativity (with examples).

  3. I totally agree with the comments above. The take-home portion was a great way to prepare for the individual portion. Personally, I struggled with the time constraint on the last individual exam. I would find it very helpful to lose one short answer question. I think this would allow me to provide a more complete answer for the medium length questions. Other than that, the test was very fair and I would keep everything else the same.

  4. I’m with everyone else, I think the take-home portion allowed us to reach better conclusions than we could have as individual members. By sharing our thoughts on the questions and taking the best bits of analysis each person had to offer, we were able to come up with a well-backed answer. Although I had time to answer every question, I was pressed for time toward the end and would not have an issue with dropping one of the longer questions.

  5. I felt the take-home portion was much more beneficial, and gave me more time to reflect and pull different pieces of the course together.

The take-home portion took quite a bit of time though, so I am a little nervous about having another exam next week with a take-home and an in-class portion – and then having to work on our research projects as well.
